Abidjan is the financial capital of Côte d’Ivoire. The most populous city in francophone West Africa, it is the second largest city and largest
metropolitan area in the French-speaking world. In 2014, its population
was 4,707,000, or 20% of the country’s total population, and it accounts
for approximately 60% of the gross domestic product (GDP) of Côte
d’Ivoire. Considered to be the cultural crossroads of West Africa, Abidjanhas been experiencing strong growth characterized by a high level of
industrialization and rapid urbanization.
